Separation Rumour 026*Separating the wheat from the chaff:
The agricultural process of separating the wheat from the chaff is called winnowing. What was originally done with a winnow, a simple, flat basket, and by throwing the pre-threshed ears up into the air by the wind, is now done with an air sifter. The sideways-attacking wind, or air flow, carries the light chaff with it, while the heavy grain falls back cleaned into the basket, or collection container.
In a figurative sense, the Bible verse Mt 3,12 "separating the chaff from the wheat" is used to separate the good from the bad, the usable from the useless. Not to be confused with cherry-picking. Here we only take out what we like. With conspiracy theorists, we only cherry-pick the information that supports our own opinion. Individual pieces of information are taken out of context. Everything else is ignored. They do not separate the good from the bad or the true from the false. Rather, even the "right" wind for the result is questioned.
Whether wheat or chaff, both once belonged together, one would not exist without the other. Presumably, the quality of truth lies closer to the ear, the sum of everything, the origin.
